If you run a cooling tower or an RO plant on Indian groundwater, you already know the real enemy isn’t dirt. It’s scale. Calcium carbonate builds up quietly on every hot surface and membrane you own, and by the time you notice a drop in heat transfer or a spike in pressure drop, it’s already cost you money. Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer is one of the most dependable tools for stopping that build-up before it starts.
At Aries Chemical, we manufacture Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer at our Vadodara, Gujarat facility and supply it to cooling tower operators, boiler plants, RO system owners and OEMs across India. It’s an ISO 9001:2015 certified process, and the product ships out as a ready-to-dose liquid, so there’s no messy powder handling on your end.
Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer, often shortened to PAA, is a water-soluble anionic polymer built from repeating acrylic acid units. In plain terms, it’s a long molecular chain covered in negative charges. That structure is exactly why it works so well in water treatment: it grabs onto the tiny calcium and magnesium particles floating in your water before they get a chance to stick together and form scale on your pipes, tubes or membranes.
It’s supplied as a clear to pale yellow liquid, typically at 42% active content, and is fully soluble in water at any dosage you’d realistically use.(50%)
Scale forms in three stages: dissolved calcium and carbonate ions find each other, they form tiny crystal seeds, and those seeds grow and stick to surfaces. PAA interrupts this at two of those stages.
First, it uses threshold inhibition. Even at a few parts per million, the polymer distorts the growing crystal structure so calcium carbonate can’t form its normal hard, adherent shape. Second, it acts as a dispersant. Any tiny particles that do form stay negatively charged and repel each other, so instead of clumping into scale, they stay suspended in the water and get carried out through blowdown or purge.
This is different from a corrosion inhibitor, which protects metal directly. PAA’s job is to keep the water itself from turning solid on your equipment.

PAA is not a single-industry product. Anywhere hard water touches equipment, it has a job to do:
Our Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer goes out to water treatment companies, industrial plant operators, OEMs building treatment skids, and exporters across power generation, textiles, sugar, paper, pharma, food processing and general manufacturing. Whether you need a drum for a pilot trial or a tanker load for ongoing supply, we can scale the order.
There are a lot of suppliers selling PAA on paper. The difference shows up once you actually place an order.
Standard packaging is 60 kg and 250 kg drums. For regular bulk buyers, we also supply in IBC totes and tanker loads. Custom packaging can be arranged for export orders.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, in the original sealed container. Avoid freezing. If the product does freeze, it can usually be restored by warming gently and mixing well, but it’s best avoided.
Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer is a mild irritant in concentrated form. Use gloves and eye protection when handling the neat liquid, and avoid prolonged skin contact. Full handling, first-aid and disposal information is available in our Safety Data Sheet, provided with every order.
Dosage depends on your feed water hardness, system cycles of concentration, and whether you’re treating for scale control alone or as part of a combined program with phosphonates and dispersants. As a starting point:
These are starting points, not fixed rules. Send us your raw water analysis and we’ll work out a dosage recommendation specific to your system.
Customers often ask us which one to use. Both are scale inhibitors, but they’re built for slightly different jobs.
Property | Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer | Polymaleic Acid |
Main use | Calcium carbonate scale control, dispersancy | Calcium phosphate and iron scale control |
Molecular weight | Low (2,000–6,000) | Usually lower, 400–1,000 |
Best suited for | Cooling towers, RO systems, general scale inhibition | High-phosphate boiler and cooling systems |
Thermal stability | Good up to moderate temperatures | Slightly better at higher temperatures |
Typical dosage | 2–10 ppm depending on water hardness | 3–15 ppm depending on system |
If calcium carbonate is your main scaling problem, which it usually is in Indian groundwater, Polyacrylic Acid Homopolymer is the better fit. If your system runs high phosphate dosing or deals with iron fouling, Polymaleic Acid may work better alongside it. We can help you decide, or supply a blend if your water needs both.
Send us your water analysis and system details, and we’ll recommend the right dosage and grade of polyacrylic acid homopolymer for your plant. Bulk pricing is available for regular supply contracts.
The product is packaged in a durable barrel for secure storage and easy transportation.
Yes, the Polyacrylic for Water Treatment Chemicals is highly soluble in water.
This product is available in liquid form.
The product should be stored at room temperature to maintain its integrity and effectiveness.
The shelf life of the product is 1 year, ensuring long-lasting utility under proper storage conditions.
Yes, with normal industrial precautions. Gloves and eye protection are recommended when handling the concentrate, and the SDS should be kept on site.
About 12 months from the date of manufacture, if stored in a closed container away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures.
Yes. It’s commonly dosed alongside phosphonates, biocides and corrosion inhibitors in a combined treatment program. We can help you work out compatible dosing if you send us your water analysis.
It’s specifically built for that. Higher hardness water usually needs a dosage on the upper end of the range rather than a different product.
It’s the same polymer at different concentrations. The 42-50% grades reduce freight and storage costs per kg of active material, which is why most of our customers order those.
Yes, both are available on request and can be sent along with your quotation.
We supply from a single drum for trial orders up to full tanker loads for regular industrial supply.
Local Gujarat deliveries are typically 24–48 hours. Pan-India dispatch usually takes 3–6 days depending on the destination.
